LOUIS VUITTON MONDO NOVO EXHIBITION IN VENICE

EXHIBITION IN VENICE
ESPACE LOUIS VUITTON VENEZIA
CALLE DEL RIDOTTO 1353

19.12.2014/26.04.2015

The 19th of December Louis Vuitton opened a new exhibition in Venice about some extraordinary eighteen-century optical treasures and the kailedoscope of the contemporary artist Olafur Eliasson.
A dialogue between two different eras about vision and perception.
Mondo Novo is the name given by Carlo Goldoni to this particular object that represents Canova’s time. It’s a viewing box where are mounted panels that usually depicted views of Italian cities. These mysterious optical illusions gave people the opportunity to go into faraway places, improving their knowledge and having fun. It’s not only a way to entertain the viewers of the past and the present, but also a way to understand the lights and the shadows of the 18th century, a world where the philosophers of Enlightenment were looking for knowledge, but also where fears and anxiety about the future and the impossibility to control the incommensurable nature were slowly growing. Moreover, this object reveals another feature of this period, the boredom of aristocracy who considered variety, surprise and escapism as the best antidotes to this affliction. For this reason every aspect of the 18th century art was characterized by the need to find a way to escape from reality, infact everything sparks, shines with gold and bright colors. But we can’t forget that the Mondo Novo was appreciated by nobles and poor people too, because the aristocracy wanted to escape from a life without efforts, the lower class wanted to escape from the sacrifices of a dramatic life.
Which is the vision of our present? The contemporary artist Olafur Eliasson gives us an example: a kaleidoscope where you can go into. It can reflect the identity of the post-modern human being who doesn’t know who he/she is because is overpowered by the contradictory inputs of the media and by the absence of real points of reference. In this way the human being is fragmented, lost like the image in a kaleidoscope.
What does link these two cultures?
A spectacular visual perception as antidote to life.

LOUIS VUITTON SPRING/SUMMER 2015 - A PRIVATE VIEW

I’ll present the show-room of Louis Vuitton to you.
It’s a private view, a preview of the spring-summer 2015 collection that we’ll find in the Louis Vuitton stores the next year.
We can smell fragrances from East. Kim Jones, designer of Louis Vuitton menswear collection, choose India as his source of inspiration.
Bright colors and tones from earth, embroidery for shirts, refined silk for sport clothes, soft leather in a wonderful turmeric nuance for the raincoat. They are items of clothing and accessories to discover and enjoy with touch and sight, like in a spice shop.
But the discovery is endless. Now you can personalize the classic damier graphite with your style. It’s time to put your signature on your journey.

"He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" - Fashion film by Matteo Marostica for Nob starring Steven Chevrin

BUONA VISIONE!

"A new Adam is born.
The perfection of his human beauty longs for the union with the divine spheres of Fashion.
Burberry Prorsum, Ermenegildo Zegna and Louis Vuitton’s creations are the holy gifts offered to the man by the soul of Fashion itself.
The pact has been signed. And it will assume new shapes.
Because man is unstable and his research is doomed to continue. Forever…"

We are so glad to show you our new project.
A fashion film directed by Matteo Marostica.
With Steven Chevrin as absolute protagonist.

This idea came out as a need to realize a dream, an intuition that we have been thinking about for a long time. So we decided to make this wish come true.
We created the story, looked after the styling and decided to invest in this new step in the blog’s life.
It has been an extraordinary adventure, way more complex and harder than expected, with tons of hitches.
With the awareness that we have to grow, we hope you will appreciate the final result.
In the end all we can say is
ENJOY THE SHOW!

LVlive Experience - Louis Vuitton Menswear Fashion Show Fall/Winter 2013-14

Another journey with Louis Vuitton in Paris.
Which are the places that we visited this time? First of all the Himalayan peaks and then a hellish garden.
Don’t be afraid, we didn’t fall in the black hole of a Surrealist painting. These are the two themes of the Parisian fashion show of Louis Vuitton fall/winter 2013-14 collection, created by the genial Kim Jones together with the artists Jake & Dinos Chapman. A winning trio able to define the extravagant and extremely elegant look of a climber above the lines. Kim Jones directed his gaze towards the clothing for the snowy summits, with a high attention for outerwear and furs, while the Chapman brothers created a sumptuous repertory of silk and cashmere decorations that they called “Garden in Hell”, as Diana Vreeland used to call her flat. Sneering creatures with disturbing gaze horn in on a horror vacui of floral twists and sparkling arabesques. These grotesque talismans protect the person who is carrying them. The snow leopard is the mascot that masters on clothes and accessories.
Louis Vuitton keeps on thrilling with intense and fruitful fellowships between art and fashion. And if the final aim was to astonish, so close to the shadows of the deepest unconscious, there would not be any better duo than the Chapman brothers, masters in puzzling and mixing with irreverence fear and desire, worry and seduction, dream and reality.
How did our journey continue in the Vuitton world? You can find some clues in our video. We will unveil the following step in our next post.

Jordan Schiele - Jury's Special Mention Winner of Louis Vuitton Journeys Awards

What is your background and studies?
I studied Mandarin and Chinese in the UK and USA and then I moved to Shanghai to work as a translator and I had the opportunity to work on a film set as a translator and the idea of being part of making it inspired me. So I decided to go to a film school in Singapore, where I also made the film for this contest, and then I sort of moved back and forth between from Singapore and Beijing and Shanghai for the last five years. Now I’m mostly based in Beijing and I work as a director of photography, but I’m also working on my first feature film in Paris as a director. It’s a fiction one and it has been selected by the Cannes Film Festival for their residence program. So I am developing the project right now, looking for producers.

What were your inspirations for “Prank”?
I really began with the idea of encounters and with what they give us. And for creating a story I think about my personal experience, a face, a place, a story, a news article. So with this video I was just interested in the idea of a first encounter and specifically first encounter of a child, because it influences the way you think about the world for the rest of your life sometimes. And at the same time I found a teenager who wants to be an actor and is studying acting in Singapore. Something about meeting him gave me the idea of a story where he’s very open to the world, helping someone and he has a strange experience that backlashes at the end because when he is opened to the world, it sort of closes off then.

What are the difficulties in creating this project? Did you have any problem with the young actor?
I think the problems of any film are connected to the fact that what you imagine, what happens and what you create at the end are all different things. I was very lucky because as a director lots of your work comes before filming: working on your film with a photographer, casting locations and faces. In this case I knew the child, his expressions and the way that he walks. I work on details as a director. I really cast him for the feeling this boy gave me. So working with children in this case was ok. He’s very willing and sweet boy. I actually had really a few problems with this project, probably the biggest challenge was dealing with the light because in Singapore light changes very quickly.

Which are your future projects?
I think I will not be a translator anymore. I am devoting my career to film-making, but not just directing. This is my dream. Whenever I had the opportunity to, time and money, interest and a script I hope to work on that completely. But I’m also interested in image and imaginary as a director of photography. How I satisfy my interest in film is by looking for opportunities to make my features so the feature film that I’m working on, which is a thriller fiction film set in China, is probably something I’ll work on next year too.

Alexis Willis - People Choice's Award Winner of Louis Vuitton Journeys Awards

Can you tell us a little bit about your studies and your background? Or if you do something else in your life.
In fact I am not a film-maker yet. I studied product design, I am a product designer and after several years of work I wanted to develop a passion, artistic activities next to my work. Something different. I’ve been doing quite a lot of photography and with the photography gear now you can also film. So I started to play with my camera and decided to go further and share the film for the Journeys Awards, infact this is my first film. So with my wife Marion, who is a graphic designer and illustrator, we are changing lives now and creating a company together and the idea is to still do product design, graphic design and try to film also.
Filming is complete. You have the thinking, the writing, to understand people and things and after you have to draw your ideas and after you have to film, to edit, you work with different people. What I really like is the mixing between the images and music.

And a difficult thing about the music is that you have to own the copyrights.
Yeah, so that’s why Alexandre, who is the other guy that was there before, wrote the music and we really worked together everything at the same time. We didn’t create the images and then the music after, everything was made at once. And yes, it was a great project and then finally this project participated to my choice of changing life.

Can we also know the inspirations and the difficulties in making such a complex video?
First of all the theme of this competition is really inspiring because it is a complete open theme. And when you hear the briefing of the contest, it opens even more because it tells you can go in this direction or not in that direction. After it was more thinking about what is an encounter and the first ideas were about our individualistic society. And so we decided to work on a person who meets himself. We really liked in Louis Vuitton the connection with the travel, which is inspiring. This is why we decided to work in two different places and while we were writing we understood that you could meet just by emotions, two people that live same emotions at the same time and the connection of that moment. The other idea in the video is that the guy needs to go in the nature and to find himself and to be with himself and to conquer himself, while the girl is more living in this pressured society and she is pushed to go and discover herself and escape. Same emotions pushed by two different points of view. So I hope people understood and appreciated it.

How did you find the protagonists of your story?
It’s funny but we didn’t look for simplicity. We wrote the story we wanted to write and after in our contacts searched for the right people. The guy is my neighbour and he had the face we were looking for and the girl is a friend of the other film-maker of the project.

Which was your reaction when you found out that you won People’s Choice Award?
It can only be a good feeling and what I really want to say is that there is my name on the film and it has been a real intense team project. Everything was intense and we decided to do the film three weeks before the end of the competition. So everything went really fast, we had to be really connected. After we learnt that we were in the 10 shortlisted movies and then after we won the prize all the experience is completely positive, especially for being our first film. Simply amazing. It also makes me think about my approach to filming and the fact that we worked with no pressure and we tried to put emotion into the images and stuff. That’s why maybe the project worked. If you have no pressure and you create something on your own, is a really good way to work.

What will you do with your cash prize?
We are creating our company so we will invest money in our company and gears.

Yukinori Makabe Interview - Jury's Award Winner of Louis Vuitton Journeys Awards

Come è nato il video “The Sun and the Moon”, premiato ai Journeys Awards?

Yukinori Makabe has been awarded winner of the second edition of the Journeys Awards by the jury headed by Luca Guadagnino, during the prize ceremony held in Rome on 8th November in the Maison Etoile of Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina. This Louis Vuitton contest has the aim to stimulate the work of young filmmakers, and in this edition the main theme has been based on encounters, which are a core value of the journey and linked to Vuitton world. A patronage mission that offered a huge visibility and also economical support of $25.000 to Yukinori Makabe, as Jury’s Award winner, and Alexis Willis for People Choice’s Award. With a Jury’s special mention to Jordan Schiele. Three names to remember cause these directors will surely leave a mark soon.
Let’s start with our meeting with the Japanese Yukinori Makabe, flawless and dapper chic in his tuxedo.

Which is your background?
When I was a university student I shot my first movie. Then I graduated and started working for the film company that produced it. Then I worked as an assistant director and later I went in for tv series.

How did you start thinking about “The Sun and the Moon”, prized at the Journeys Awards?
I filmed the eclipse that there was on May 21st 2012. Later I thought about the plot for this contest, starting exactly from this suggestive moment that has inspired me. A week after the eclipse I shot the scenes with the children.

Did you find any technical problem during the realization?
The eclipse filming has been the most difficult part. Because it was necessary that the image wouldn’t become too much bright or shadowy, and without possibilities to film it again, considering the uniqueness of the event.

How do you think to invest the cash prize?
I would love to realize a full-length movie. I still don’t have any particular idea in mind. The only thing I know it that this story will not be sad, but it will make people smile.
