What is a carré?
It’s the name given to its squared silk scarves (90x90 cm / 70x70 cm) by Hermès in 1937. It’s the result of 450ooo metres of silk which are equivalent to 300 cocoons born by 300 little eggs. The mother is just one butterfly. It’s the math of beauty: 1 butterfly = 1 carré. But the perfect rationality and geometry of this wonderful object doesn’t influence the fluidity and lightness of its shapes and purposes.
You can think that a carré is like an origami to play with, but useful like a swiss pocket-knife. The best functionality with unequaled aesthetic.
A passepartout to transform every circumstance, or inconvenience, in a style instant.
Do you have a spot on your shirt? A carré will be your tie to cover it.
Do you want to be elegant enjoying a cocktail? A carré will be your handkerchief.
Is a flurry coming? A carré will protect you.
Such versatility was so relevant that many contemporary artists like Fernando Gutiérrez, Tokujin Yoshioka, Becky Cocks and Mathieu Mercier used this precious piece of silk to create new masterpieces of art.
In this continuous variability, the carré honors his origins, as if every time you open your drawer a new butterfly comes out of its chrysalis.
