Umit Benan Fall/Winter 2012-13

Un dormitorio di soldati all’indomani della tregua. C’è chi si è appena alzato dal letto; chi gioca a carte tentando la sorte; chi continua ad allenarsi per sfoggiare il fisico possente scolpito dagli sforzi militari; chi si sta facendo la doccia (totalmente nudo in passerella) e chi si sta facendo fare un tatuaggio (in tempo reale) per suggellare per sempre le proprie conquiste. Una sfilata incredibile, che ha fatto sentire la concreta fragranza di quell’elettrica euforia che segna la quiete dopo la tempesta di ogni fase post-bellica. Un clima di aggregazione collettiva, di abbattimento di barriere e tabù, di gioia spontanea, di apertura, speranza e novità, non priva di uno doveroso saluto al passato. Un sentimento condiviso, che Umit Benan riesce a instillare nel pubblico grazie alle atmosfere create e al mescolamento delle convenzioni sartoriali dell’uniforme e del classico abito borghese. Ciò che si respira è l’eccitazione dell’attesa di una nuova era, che supera l’oscurità e l’angoscia di questi tempi di crisi. E con Umit il futuro è già presente.

A dormitory of soldiers the day after the ceasefire. There is someone who has just woken up from the bed; others who are playing cards chancing their luck; someone else who keeps on training to expose his mighty body; someone who is taking a shower (totally naked on the catwalk) and another one who is having his arm tattooed (real-time) to pay tribute to the victory. An unbelievable fashion show able to recreate the electric euphoria that marks out the calm after the storm of a postwar phase. A climate that mixes togetherness, instinctive joy, openness, novelty, that cuts out barriers and taboos, still being grateful to the past. A shared feeling that Umit Benan can instil to the public thanks to this atmosphere and blending the sartorial uniform with the middle-class suit. All you can feel is the excitement waiting for a new era, able to overcome the darkness and the angst of these crisis times. And with Umit the future is now.
