Maison Louis Vuitton Etoile in Rome - Opening and Cocktail Party

Today on January 29th 2012, Louis Vuitton opens its first Italian Maison ever in Piazza San Lorenzo in Lucina, Rome. A store that gives back to the city the brilliance of an historic piece of its long history: the cinema “Etoile”. It was founded in 1907 with the name “Lux et Umbra” and it has been the first Roman movie theatre during the golden age of silent screen, then it became “Etoile” in 1970, up to its closedown in 1991. The eccentric architect Peter Marino glamorized this hidden treasure, honouring the glory of the Eternal City’s style. The ground floor is dedicated to leather goods, the downstairs area to menswear, while the first floor to womenswear and the cinema, which is open to all the visitors with the vision of films and short films about monthly common themes. The opening series are “Rome seen through the classic Italian cinema”, with movies by Moretti, Fellini and Sorrentino. The space is flooded by light and you loose your sight looking up, as in the ceilings frescoed by Roman quadraturist painters. The way to admire the stars that shined and will shine under the Roman skies is an elliptical staircase, which is baroque inspired and chalice-shapes, illuminated with strip lights as a movie film. During the inaugural party, which we had the pleasure to attend, the photographers captured the charm of Cate Blanchett, Catherine Deneuve, Francesco Scianna and many others.
