LOUIS VUITTON CELEBRATING MONOGRAM - FOCUS ON CINDY SHERMAN

Louis Vuitton celebrates 160 years since the foundation of the maison, inviting six creative iconoclasts to glorify the monogram, the well-known signature of Louis Vuitton, a synonim of luxury, created by Georges Vuitton in 1896 in honor of his father.
But who is the rebel exponent, chosen to represent the art system? The answer is Cindy Sherman. She is an unconventional artist who uses irony as a tool for her masterpieces.
She uses photography as a medium, but she doesn’t consider herself a photographer because she is a performer and the leading role of her own works. She creates caricatures of women’s clothes and makeup, focusing on the different female identities of our society. Her main aim is to shock through freakish elements and let us think about the influence of female stereotypes. Her photos show the human being’s fall who is looking for beauty and perfection. Her shoots are like the staged instants created everyday by the users of Facebook and Instagram who try to build new virtual identities because, despite the massive use of Photoshop and filters to manipulate images, photography is still a certification of reality. And in this way Cindy Sherman shows us that everyone is just a clown, a seller of entertainment, a tragic character, a victim of his own role.
But how could we join Cindy Sherman’s team to unveil reality? The artist designed a trunk, with compartments for fake eyeballs, fake teeth and all the stuff for her performances. It’s a real mini-traveling studio, with her personal touch. The interior has the color of her parrot and on the surface there are a lot of bizarre images as stickers. And then a camera bag has arrived as a normal consequence. These objects of desire in limited edition were photographed and reinterpreted by Johnny Dufort in a spectacular editorial. Beyond the products, Louis Vuitton gives us an invitation to look for awareness.
