Non sono ancora un film maker. Ho studiato product design ed è questo il mio lavoro. Ma dopo molti anni ho deciso di nutrire una mia passione, un’attitudine artistica prossima alla mia attività. Mi sono avvicinato alla fotografia, realizzando molti scatti, e con queste conoscenze tecniche puoi realizzare anche dei film. Così ho deciso di andare oltre condividendo il corto per i Journeys Awards. Difatti questo è il mio primo film. Con mia moglie Marion, che è una graphic designer e un’illustratrice, stiamo cambiando vita e stiamo creando una compagnia insieme che unisca product design, graphic design e anche la creazione di film. Fare film è qualcosa di completo. Hai l’idea e la sceneggiatura, poi devi capire gli individui, le cose, filmare, montare e lavorare con persone diverse. Ma ciò che amo davvero è il mix tra immagini e musica.
Una grande difficoltà riguardo la musica è l'acquisizione dei diritti.
Infatti è per questo che è stato fondamentale il lavoro di Alexandre, che ha composto la musica. E’ stato un lavoro compiuto insieme. La musica è nata contemporaneamente alle immagini e non successivamente. E’ stato davvero un grande progetto che sta contribuendo alla mia scelta di cambiare vita.
Quali sono state le ispirazioni e le difficoltà nella creazione di un video così complesso?
Il tema di questa competizione era davvero ispirante perché era completamente aperto ad ogni possibilità. Ho riflettuto sul concetto di incontro e le prime idee riguardavano la nostra società individualistica, così abbiamo deciso di lavorare su una persona che incontra se stessa. Inoltre ci piaceva molto in Louis Vuitton la connessione con il viaggio. Per questo abbiamo deciso di lavorare in due luoghi differenti e mentre stavamo scrivendo la storia abbiamo capito che l’incontro può avvenire attraverso le medesime emozioni vissute tra due persone nello stesso momento e la connessione di quell’istante. L’altra idea nel video è che il ragazzo ha bisogno di immergersi nella natura per trovare se stesso, mentre la ragazza vive in una società opprimente ed è spinta anche lei a scappare. Le medesime sensazioni da due differenti punti di vista. Spero che le persone comprendano il video e lo apprezzino.

Come hai trovato i protagonisti del film?
Potrà sembrare divertente, ma non ci siamo voluti semplificare le cose. In primis abbiamo scritto la storia che avevamo in mente e successivamente abbiamo cercato le persone giuste tra i nostri contatti. Il ragazzo è il mio vicino di casa. Lui aveva il volto che cercavamo, mentre la ragazza è una amica dell’altro regista di questo nostro progetto.
Quale è stata la tua reazione quando hai saputo che il pubblico aveva scelto il tuo video come il migliore?
E’ stato emozionante. Nel film c’è il mio nome, ma è stato un vero e proprio lavoro di squadra. Tutto è stato intenso. Abbiamo realizzato il film in tre settimane prima della fine della competizione. Tutto è stato veramente veloce e dovevamo essere connessi tra noi. Prima abbiamo saputo che eravamo tra i primi 10 film e dopo che avevamo vinto questo premio. E’ stata un’esperienza davvero positiva e fantastica, soprattutto perché è stato il nostro primo film. Questa esperienza mi ha fatto pensare anche al mio approccio alla regia, al fatto che abbiamo lavorato senza pressione e che abbiamo provato a mettere le emozioni nelle immagini. Forse è per questo che il progetto è andato avanti. Non avere pressione e creare qualcosa per conto proprio, questo è il modo migliore per lavorare.
Cosa farai con il compenso in denaro che hai vinto?
Investiremo nella creazione della nostra compagnia e nell'acquisto di attrezzature.

Can you tell us a little bit about your studies and your background? Or if you do something else in your life.
In fact I am not a film-maker yet. I studied product design, I am a product designer and after several years of work I wanted to develop a passion, artistic activities next to my work. Something different. I’ve been doing quite a lot of photography and with the photography gear now you can also film. So I started to play with my camera and decided to go further and share the film for the Journeys Awards, infact this is my first film. So with my wife Marion, who is a graphic designer and illustrator, we are changing lives now and creating a company together and the idea is to still do product design, graphic design and try to film also.
Filming is complete. You have the thinking, the writing, to understand people and things and after you have to draw your ideas and after you have to film, to edit, you work with different people. What I really like is the mixing between the images and music.
And a difficult thing about the music is that you have to own the copyrights.
Yeah, so that’s why Alexandre, who is the other guy that was there before, wrote the music and we really worked together everything at the same time. We didn’t create the images and then the music after, everything was made at once. And yes, it was a great project and then finally this project participated to my choice of changing life.
Can we also know the inspirations and the difficulties in making such a complex video?
First of all the theme of this competition is really inspiring because it is a complete open theme. And when you hear the briefing of the contest, it opens even more because it tells you can go in this direction or not in that direction. After it was more thinking about what is an encounter and the first ideas were about our individualistic society. And so we decided to work on a person who meets himself. We really liked in Louis Vuitton the connection with the travel, which is inspiring. This is why we decided to work in two different places and while we were writing we understood that you could meet just by emotions, two people that live same emotions at the same time and the connection of that moment. The other idea in the video is that the guy needs to go in the nature and to find himself and to be with himself and to conquer himself, while the girl is more living in this pressured society and she is pushed to go and discover herself and escape. Same emotions pushed by two different points of view. So I hope people understood and appreciated it.

It’s funny but we didn’t look for simplicity. We wrote the story we wanted to write and after in our contacts searched for the right people. The guy is my neighbour and he had the face we were looking for and the girl is a friend of the other film-maker of the project.

It can only be a good feeling and what I really want to say is that there is my name on the film and it has been a real intense team project. Everything was intense and we decided to do the film three weeks before the end of the competition. So everything went really fast, we had to be really connected. After we learnt that we were in the 10 shortlisted movies and then after we won the prize all the experience is completely positive, especially for being our first film. Simply amazing. It also makes me think about my approach to filming and the fact that we worked with no pressure and we tried to put emotion into the images and stuff. That’s why maybe the project worked. If you have no pressure and you create something on your own, is a really good way to work.
