In una settimana molto intensa di Gennaio, tra Pitti Uomo e le sfilate di Milano, Nob ha incontrato personalmente anche Sjaak Hullekes e Sebastiaan Kramer al White Homme. Ormai vecchie conoscenze (vedi intervista a Sjaak Hullekes) l'emozione di vedere da vicino la collezione autunno-inverno 2010 "Small Town Boy" è stata indescrivibile e le attese sono state pienamente ripagate. Impossibile non essere calamitati dal loro stand. La palette dei colori è una gioia per gli occhi, come il fragrante profumo di una scatola di cioccolatini appena scartata. I tessuti sono pura estasi per il tatto, come le note di un'armonia autunnale. Condividiamo con parole e immagini questa collezione, sperando che ogni piccolo ragazzo di provincia venga rapito, come Nob, da questa eccellente lezione di stile.

Come mai "Small Town Boy" (ragazzo di provincia in italiano, ndr)?
Beh, perché penso di esserlo anche io. Amo l'idea di essere isolato da un gruppo e questo tipo di isolamento è affascinante perché così puoi sviluppare qualcosa autonomamente, senza rischiare di copiare ciò che fanno gli altri e mantenendo le tue idee all’interno della tua area. Proprio questo è il lato positivo.

C’è così tanto di te nella campagna pubblicitaria di questa collezione. Gli occhiali, la pettinatura… E’ vero?
In un certo senso penso di essere la mia stessa musa. Ritengo sia inevitabile che ciò che crei mantenga un riflesso di te stesso, quando si va oltre o riguardo le mode che ti mancano, ed è sempre positivo farlo in modo cosciente, quindi sì, è decisamente così.

Per i surrealisti e la cultura fetish la pelliccia è un simbolo erotico. Invece tu cosa ne pensi?
Per indossare una pelliccia è necessario avere una predisposizione. Innanzitutto bisogna essere consapevoli di chi si è, della ragione per cui piace e la si vuole indossare. Tutto ciò lo considero un nuovo tipo di dandismo. Il fatto che gli uomini siano consapevoli di questo e capaci di portarla è qualcosa che sostengo da sempre.

Spesso usi particolari abbinamenti di colore, come fa Dries Van Noten. Forse dietro questo mix c’è una tradizione nordica, infatti in Italia usiamo il nero, il bianco, il blu, colori classici. Dicci di più a riguardo.
E’ difficile risponderti perché è una questione individuale, di gusti. Io mi interesso di antichità, degli archetipi e dei classici del guardaroba maschile. Non so il motivo, ma mi piace vestire con quel tipo di tonalità. Il bianco, il nero e il grigio per me sono troppo facili da portare perché si può dire così tanto altro, ed alla fine c'è quel non so che di arrogante in un uomo che preferisce giocare coi colori. Indossandoli in qualche modo decide di osare.

Why "small town boy"?
Well, I think because I am one myself as well. I loved it with the mentality of being as a group isolated and that kind of isolation is a fascinating part because then you can develop something yourself and not take the things from others and just keeping it in your own area and that is a fascinating thing I think.

There is so much of you in the advertising of this collection. The glasses, the hair… Is it true?
In a way I am my own muse because I think it is really important that what you create is always keeping your own reflection about when it goes too far, or what you liked about fashion that you have missed and it is also a good thing, it is the most conscious thing and so it is totally true.

For the surrealists and fetish culture the fur is a sexual symbol . What do you think about it?
Wearing furs you have to have some sort of an attitude. First of all you have to be aware of who you are and why you like and wear it and this is what I consider the new kind of dandyism and fact that men are aware of it and able to wear fur is a thing I have promoted.

You often use particular mix of colours like Dries Van Noten. Maybe there is a Nordic tradition behind it, in fact in Italy we use black, white, blue, classic colours. Tell us more about it.
Oh, that’s difficult, because it is really individual about what you adore, what you like. My interest is lot of antique, archetype and classical in garments for menswear wardrobe. I don’t know why it is but I really like to wear with that kind of palettes. White, black and grey are too easy for me because you can say so much more with that and at all the end you still have a kind of arrogance that a men has preferred these colours so he is wearing it and not playing safe in some way.
