Between escapes in the country, libertine loves and motorbike races, men retrieves the animal side of their essence. Wearing just a pair of jeans. The scent of their own skin is the unique granted one, mixed with hay and mud.
Following the Lagerfeld fashion show’s atmosphere for Chanel Spring/Summer 2010, the fashion houses have decided to dress men with the famous indigo work clothes, amid the harvesting rural golden landscapes. The man searches for the meaning of life in nature getting dirty hands. It isn’t a simple snob desire, but a practical need to shape reality through the brute strength of their hands and feel finally the control of their lives in a precarious period such as the present one. And which are the best allies if not jeans, the garment of adventure par excellence?
Suitable for all your needs, for comfort and durability, absolute body mate, they became well-known between the Wars, recognized as the head symbol of rebellion and freedom. And it’s impossible to think of these decades without James Dean in jeans or Marlon Brando with tight and stained with sweat t-shirt. Fred Hughes with his 501 and his classic jacket was iconic, a famous look borrowed by his friend Andy Warhol as a uniform. Jason Lewis with his dungarees in Sex and the City is memorable, while on the background of a field he undresses with a simple gesture, displaying the splendor of his nakedness. Today jeans are back in their many variations, but mostly in light colors. They are refined and with an almost tailoring appeal when the silhouette is tight, with ad hoc nuances, without tears and rolled hem.
So men's fashion shakes off the glitter and glamour to regain strength and virility, getting high on Tolstoy’s words, which have been brought to mind by Into the Wild of Sean Penn: "I have lived through much, and now I think I have found what is needed for happiness. A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it easy to do good, and who are not accustomed to have it done to them; then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one’s neighbor - such is my idea of happiness. And then, on the top of all that, you for a mate, and children, perhaps - what more can the hear of man desire?"
