Con l’arrivo di Hedi Slimane da Dior nel 2000, cambia radicalmente la silhouette maschile. Le esili figure ipersottili portate in passerella dallo stilista francese influenzano stile e abbigliamento dell’uomo di strada, che si libera finalmente dal peso mentale e materiale dei retaggi oversized degli anni ottanta-novanta. Nel giro di boa del decennio che si sta aprendo, è stata innescata una nuova mutazione: capi pompati e iperbolici, dalle proporzioni extralarge, degni di un nipote di Hulk. L’enfasi è posta su braccia e spalle.
Ma cosa sta accadendo all’uomo contemporaneo? Che stia recuperando le proporzioni di un recente passato per farsi più spazio in un mondo sempre più vacuo? Che questi abiti siano l'espansione del nostro ego smisurato? Palloni gonfiati, verrebbe da dire. Sembra di sentire riecheggiare le parole di Ulf Poschardt che sostiene che “là dove l’uomo si esalta a superuomo, la sua fine è già compiuta”.

The male silhouette radically changed with the arrival of Hedi Slimane at Dior in 2000. The skinny models on the catwalk brought by the French designer influenced the street style and the menswear too. Men were finally relieved by the mental and material weight of the oversized trend of the eighties-nineties. But in the latest decade a new mutation is going on: pumped items, with XXL proportions, Hulk-style. The emphasis is placed on arms and shoulders.
But what does it happen to the contemporary man? Is he recovering the recent past proportions to face this slick world? Are these clothes the expansions of our immense ego? Bigheads, some would say. And Ulf Poschardt words reecho “there where man exalts himself as a superman, his end has already come”.
