Thom Browne F/W 2011-12Il settecento è stata un’epoca di contraddizioni, l’anticamera di un tempo governato dalle ombre. Un secolo all’insegna della “ricerca di una luce, di una speranza, che un solo attimo di distrazione sembrava poter riassorbire nella più spaventosa oscurità. E le tenebre non stavano solo dentro l’uomo, ma lo avvolgevano nel momento in cui prendeva coscienza dell’immensità del mondo fisico cui apparteneva e che pure eccitava gli animi”, afferma la storica dell’arte Orietta Rossi Pinelli. Non a caso, a cavallo tra sette e ottocento, hanno avuto i natali i mostri di Goya, generati dal sonno della ragione, ma anche i protagonisti di “Intervista col vampiro”, film di Neil Jordan del 1994, tratto dal romanzo di Anne Rice.
Le ispirazioni per rivivere in queste lugubri atmosfere le offrono Dries Van Noten, John Galliano e Ann Demeulemeester, che creano marsine con preziosi ricami dorati a motivi floreali da aristocratico del settecento. Rag & Bone elimina gli eccessi e si cala nel periodo sanguinario della rivoluzione francese, con righe e pantaloni lunghi da sanculotto. Mentre Thom Browne lascia i pantaloni corti con le calze aderenti a vista e poi fa un salto verso il pieno ottocento, con giacche lunghe fino al ginocchio come redingote, bastone, cilindro e occhialini tondi simili al “Dracula” del 1992 diretto da Francis Ford Coppola.

The eighteenth century has been a period of contradictions, anticipating a time ruled by dark forces. It was all about “searching a light, a hope, that in a lapse of concentration seemed to disappear in a frightening obscurity. And the darkness surrounded men, more than simply lying in their hearts, in the exact moment they realized the vastness of the world they lived in, which was also able to excite their minds”, as the art historian Orietta Rossi Pinelli stated. Not by chance, between 18th and 19th centuries, Goya’s monsters, who are produced by the sleep of reason, find refuge and so do the protagonists of “Interview with the vampire”, which is a 1994 movie by Neil Jordan, based on Anne Rice’s novel.
Dries Van Noten, John Galliano and Ann Demeulemeester bring these gloomy atmospheres back to life, creating tailcoats with precious gold embroideries and floral patterns as nobles used to wear.
