Luca Larenza Fall/Winter 2011-12 - White Homme

“Novelle Rusticane”.

“Life in the Fields”. Luca Larenza’s items for next winter seem a real homage to Giovanni Verga. The earthy colours, raw cut edges and devoré neckerchiefs lead us to the country scenes of Verismo, a nineteenth-century literary movement, and to extreme, harsh and aggressive landscape, typical of the South of Italy. They also bring back the memories of shepherds and charcoal burners solitary hard work and street entertainers’ oddity. Furthermore they relate to Latin quotes, which together with quattrocento portraits, rule over t-shirts as coats of arms. “Mater artium necessitas”: necessity is the mother of invention. This saying serves to give a boost, as the genuine Neapolitan Luca Larenza explained to us: «It represents us because we are young and launching a new brand, which at the beginning means sacrifice». There is even a provoking irony to downplay formal pieces. As in the image of a virgin saying “do ut des”: I give that you might give.
There is also a reflection about today's life and its duties. «The high collar of a sweater can bother you when you enter somewhere indoors, so we thought of creating a removable collar, that can be used as an independent item too». The baby alpaca knitwear has frogs made of hemp strings and wood. For lighter weights, wool, silk and cashmere summon tactile sensations of baroque luxury, rooted in the Kingdom of the DNA of the Two Sicilies. The tradition of Neapolitan tailoring is at its best clarification in the coat, made by a real master craftsman. «We have used cotton and lyocell, which is a recent discovery and highly comfortable fiber, perfect for boundless moving and driving».
Does this country gentleman need anything more to be fully accessorized? Two dried leaves as pocket square. That’s it!
